Robert Panitzsch, Interior Scene With Lady At Dressing Table

This gentle early 20th-century interior scene by Danish artist Robert Panitzsch (1879-1949) depicts a lady sitting at a dressing table while admiring a small bouquet. The back of her dress is brightly lit and her face partially turned.

Panitzsch was particularly adept at rendering light as it cascades through a room and this is a good example of his work. He often painted this lady and it’s possibly his wife, Fanny (née Christensen), who he met while she was working for the Red Cross.

He always conveys such delicacy in his work, a sense of admiration and love.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
