William Bright Morris, Flower Gathering With Coastal View

William Bright Morris, Flower Gathering With Coastal View

This charming landscape painting by British artist, William Bright Morris (1844-1912), depicts a woman gathering flowers by a rustic coastal cottage. It’s an idyllic scene set against a dramatic sky in purple hues.

On the right, the eye is drawn towards two windswept trees that stand with a perpetual lean, battered by coastal gales. While on the left, the shoreline extends towards a distant vanishing point, past a breaker that juts into the sea.

The historic effects of the natural elements are evident, yet today the weather is tranquil. A perfect opportunity to pick flowers from the wild meadow.

Signed in the lower right and held within a fine swept frame with foliate.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
