Wilhelm Westerop, Portrait Of A Doberman In Profile

Wilhelm Westerop, Portrait Of A Doberman In Profile

A fine early 20th-century portrait of a Doberman by German painter, Wilhelm Westerop (1876-1954).

Westerop was known for his portraits of animals, particularly horses and dogs, and this piece is very typical of his work. In 2013, a similar portrait of a boxer dog sold at Bonhams in the United States.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a frame that’s probably the original.
