Still Life With Flowers

Still Life With Flowers

This attractive mid-20th-century oil painting by German artist Oskar Hagemann (1888-1985) depicts a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a jug.

With an impressionistic touch, Hagemann has captured the delicacy of these blooms with spirit. It’s a quiet ensemble, pared back and refined with an emphasis on the gentle harmony of pastel colours. He lived a remarkable life - marrying another artist and residing for a while at a castle in Sommerau, Germany. This is a rare find as his still lifes tend to be less common than his portraits.

Signed lower left and held within an ornate gilt frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
