Maurice Ehlinger, Still Life With Yellow Chrysanthemums & Vase

Maurice Ehlinger, Still Life With Yellow Chrysanthemums & Vase

A gorgeous early 20th-century still life depicting a bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums with a vase by French painter, Maurice Ehlinger (1896-1981).

Ehlinger has selected a composition that brings these beautiful flowers firmly in view with the longest stems extending off three sides of the canvas. By doing so, he’s immersed us into a light-filled riot of yellow and green with the open petals bringing a sense of life and vitality.

Maurice Ambroise Ehlinger was highly regarded during his lifetime and exhibited in several French museums and galleries. His work also formed part of an exhibition at the 1932 Summer Olympics.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a vintage frame that’s probably its original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
