Still Life With Roses

Kees Terlouw

Still Life With Roses

This beautiful mid-20th-century oil painting by Dutch artist Kees Terlouw (1890-1948) depicts an abundant arrangement of red, white and pink roses set within a vase.

Vividly filling the centre of the canvas, the roses radiate in bloom. Their rich tones contrast with the gentle transparency of glass. Terlouw was a master of such compositions - imbuing each with the colours and buoyancy of ever-enduring love. He was a humble romantic who produced works that spoke to the heart.

“This love is the rose that blooms forever.” - Rumi

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
