Hans Ulmer, Interior Scene With Working Family

Hans Ulmer, Interior Scene With Working Family

An exquisite early 20th-century interior scene by German artist, Hans Ulmer (b. 1886). It depicts a family working in a barn with the father undertaking some carpentry while his wife prepares a meal. A tiny baby looks up towards its mother from a new wicker crib.

This beautifully rendered piece captures a snapshot into the life of a hard-working family with great attention to detail. Note the armchair on the upper level and the bright light entering through a small window.

Hans Ulmer was a painter of scenes, portraits and landscapes and worked in a traditional style.

The painting is signed/dated in the lower left and housed within a later frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
