A large impressionistic oil on canvas titled ‘Sunday Evening’ by British painter, Folliott Stokes (1855-1939). It depicts a coastal church gently lit by the last rays of a warm setting sun.

Allen Gardiner Folliott Stokes was born in Oxfordshire but moved to Cornwall in the 1890s. His works were shown at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and Nottingham Museum & Art Gallery.

The painting is signed in the bottom right and the reverse bears two old GWR labels along with an exhibition/gallery label.
