Autumnal Landscape With Stream

This early 20th-century impressionistic landscape painting depicts a restful stream passing through a meadow.

Shimmering alongside damp grasses, silvery water reflects the gentle forms of Autumnal foliage. While the crunch of nearby leaves is offset by flickers of white. Beyond, the subtle verticals of a dense forest enclose the view with suggestions of depth provided in misty tints above.

The artist, evidently well-trained, probably worked directly from nature. Pitching up in this placid environment, inspired by its modest solemnity.

Held within a later frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
