Portrait Of Ferdinand Josef Lemberger

A fine early 20th-century oil painting after Ján Kupecký’s (1667-1740) portrait of the court musician, Ferdinand Josef Lemberger.

Ján Kupecký was a Czech portraitist that worked during the baroque and his portraits tended to feature the dramatic light and shade often associated with the period.

This particular piece was produced in around 1910 by ‘K Richer’ of Munich.

The painting is signed in the upper left and housed within a later frame.

Overall size: 25” x 31” / 64cm x 79cm

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
