19th-Century Danish School, Still Life With Apple Blossom

19th-Century Danish School, Still Life With Apple Blossom

A charming late 19th-century Danish school still life depicting a vase with beech branches and apple blossom. A single dandelion is tucked away towards the centre - perhaps a gentle reminder of the passing of time.

Note also how the artist has rendered the light as it catches the snail’s shell. An intelligent addition.

The painting is unsigned but sits well alongside other Nordic still lifes from the period. It’s housed within a silver frame.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 18½” x 24” / 47cm x 61cm
Year of creation: c. 1880
Provenance: Denmark
Condition: Craquelure but the paint is stable. Frame with some age-related wear.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
