Still Life Life With Fruit

A worn mid-18th-century oil on canvas depicting an arrangement of fruit including cherries and grapes.

The style has its roots in the Dutch golden age of painting but it’s probably Flemish.

Over time, the details of this painting have become harder to decipher but it remains a charming decorative piece.

It’s housed in a later frame.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 19” x 24” / 49cm x 61cm
Year of creation: c. 1750
Condition: Craquelure but the paint is stable. Canvas relined. Frame with some wear.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
