Isidor Meyers studied at the academy in Antwerp and was an influential figure in his day. During a stay in Paris in 1855, he became acquainted with the French Barbizon painters who were the first to truly embrace painting en plein air. This group left a lasting impression on him and influenced his expressive approach and strong, confident mark.
Several of his works are housed in the museums at Brussels and Antwerp.
