This unusual late Victorian portrait of a young lady has a hazy dreamlike quality that adds to its sense of history.

The artist is unknown but they’ve used textured paper, which gives the drawing an interesting stippled effect. It seems to heighten the atmosphere.

The portrait is housed within an appropriate frame. A charming addition to a period home.

Medium: Pencil and charcoal on paper
Overall size: 13½” x 15½” / 34cm x 40cm
Year of creation: c. 1900
Condition: Overall very presentable. Frame with some age-related wear.
Our reference: BRV0632

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
