This charming early-20th-century oil painting by Danish artist Knud Sinding (1898-1947) depicts a kitchen interior with mother and child.
A gentle breeze passes through the kitchen window. The room partially illuminated by a crisp glow. Looking down, she washes dishes, occasionally glancing above the voile towards a resplendent garden in bloom. Her child scuttles and chatters within a sturdy wooden walker.
Sinding had two passions - Italy and his family. Here, in around 1912, he’s probably depicting his wife, Mia, and child - possibly Eva. Later in life, his walls would be adorned with paintings of his children.
Monogrammed in the lower right and held within a period frame, which is probably original.
