Christian Aigens, Portrait Of A Girl Reading

Christian Aigens, Portrait Of A Girl Reading

A charming portrait of a girl reading by Danish artist, Anders Peter Christian Aigens (1870-1940). Aigens often painted this young lady and it’s highly likely that he’s related - perhaps it’s his daughter.

Anders Peter Christian Aigens was born in Copenhagen and trained at the Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler, which offered an alternative approach to the classical leanings of the Academy. During his time there, he studied under Peder Severin Krøyer and Laurits Tuxe. He later trained at the Academy itself so had the benefit of a broad range of influences.

He’s predominantly known for his portraits - one of which is held by the Museum of Aalborg.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
