Provincial Swiss School Portrait Of A Girl Holding Flowers

Provincial Swiss School Portrait Of A Girl Holding Flowers

A charming early 19th-century portrait of a demure young lady holding a small posy of flowers. She’s wearing a brown and blue bell-shaped dress, white apron, and pink neckerchief.

It’s likely that the artist was a keen amateur and perhaps even a friend or family member. We love the way they’ve captured her expression as she stands patiently for her portrait.

The canvas has seen better days but it’s fine to hang and would make a nice addition to your mantle or gallery wall.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
