Wilhelm Fritzel studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, which was the leading German Academy for many years. He was taught by an eclectic mixture of artists including Olof Jernberg, Hugo Crola, Adolf Schill, Peter Janssen, Arthur Kampf and Eugen Dücker.
