    This early 20th-century Swedish school oil painting depicts five fishermen dragging in their nets after a long day at sea. It’s dusk and the sky is a muted array of evening tones.

    The clever composition brings weight to the leaning figures as they haul their heavy nets ashore. Note the direction of the shimmering water with its vivid highlights, the strips of horizontal cloud, and the pointed rocks in the foreground. But also notice how the elements on the right tend to create a vertical presence to bring contrast to the diagonal.

    The painting is signed illegibly and framed.
