Robert Panitzsch, Plush Interior Scene With Seated Woman

Robert Panitzsch, Plush Interior Scene With Seated Woman

This sensuous interior scene by Robert Panitzsch (1879-1949) depicts a lady reading within a plush, yet homely, living room. It’s comfortably decorated with two large windows providing an abundance of light.

On the right, a large bouquet stands before a mirror that reflects a tall grandfather clock - its gentle tick providing the only sound. While on the left, a glass fruit bowl sits atop a small table with two books on the shelf underneath.

This is the artist’s home - on the far wall, we see four of his artworks. His distinctive pinks and greens make a welcome addition.

The painting is signed/dated and housed within its original gilt frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
