Interior Scene With Seated Woman

This early 20th-century oil painting by Danish artist Robert Panitzsch (1879-1949) depicts an interior with a seated woman.

Perched on her favourite chair by the window, she looks across the garden. A moment's rest to admire the spritely blooms of early Summer as the light cascades across a tree-lined lawn. A large landscape, framed in gilt, hangs above an 18th-century sofa upholstered in light green. This corner of the house always catches the midday Sun.

Robert Panitzsch loved celebrating the quiet moments of everyday life that often pass us by. A voyeur capturing quiet introspection amid calm period homes with sumptuous furnishings.

Signed/dated in the lower right and held in its original gilt frame with coved sides.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
