Provincial 19th-Century British Maritime Scene

Provincial 19th-Century British Maritime Scene

A naive 19th-century maritime scene depicting several British ships within a busy harbour. The ship in the foreground appears to be a clipper or frigate with 20 cannon. It’s flying the British Red Ensign and could possibly be a merchant ship.

The painting is signed ‘M Powell’ and dated in the lower right.

A charming old piece.
