Poul Friis Nybo, Interior Scene With Lady Sewing

Poul Friis Nybo, Interior Scene With Lady Sewing

This gentle interior scene by Danish artist, Poul Friis Nybo (1869-1929) depicts a lady sewing. We love the quiet introspection in this piece and you can almost hear the clock ticking.

Poul Friis Nybo is predominantly known for his interiors with many of these featuring women either writing, reading or undertaking crafts. We’ve managed to discover other paintings that include this particular lady so it was probably someone he knew well.

The painting is signed/dated in the upper left and housed within a gilt frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
