Frank Hider, Trossachs National Park, Scotland

This absorbing landscape painting by British artist Frank Hider (1861-1933) captures a beautiful view across undulant scenery towards distant mountains. It’s a masterful composition that combines several elements to great effect. Note the diagonal, which runs from the top left with the majestic pines cutting through the horizon. And the various layers, which add depth and interest.

The foreground is also abundant with the full bloom of Summer. A scattering of floral vibrancy in pink, yellow and white.

Hider has selected an extensive composition, which ebbs and flows with a lyrical sense of poetry.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
