Still Life With Chrysanthemums

This enchanting still life by Austrian artist, Ella Wetzko-Ehrenberger (1874-1945), depicts an arrangement of chrysanthemums, oyster shell, statuette and pearl necklace.

It’s a refined snapshot into the life of a sophisticated woman.

There’s a delicacy to the brushwork, every element rendered with a fine touch and careful handling. Note how the necklace falls from the shell as the light catches the pearls. Wetzko-Ehrenberger admired this decorative ensemble and has captured its elegant beauty with a masterly touch.

Signed on the left and housed in a gilt frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
