Edwin Moseley Fox, Two Mares In A Landscape

Edwin Moseley Fox, Two Mares In A Landscape

This charming early 19th-century painting by British artist Edwin Moseley Fox depicts a chestnut mare and a grey mare in a landscape. They’re entwined like old friends as they rest in the shade of a gnarled oak tree.

Fox probably produced this work for a commission and it once hung in a fine period home in Regency Cheltenham.

The painting is signed/dated and housed within a beautiful foliate frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
