Dutch School, A View Of Dordrecht Seaport

Dutch School, A View Of Dordrecht Seaport

An impressionistic oil on canvas depicting a colourful view of Dordrecht Seaport in Holland. On the left, three figures are unloading cargo from several moored steamboats. While further ahead, a medieval church rises above a row of historic buildings.

The artist has rendered this scene beautifully - particularly in the handling of the light shimmering on the water. Through the centre of the composition, dapples of blue turn to bright white as ripples catch the morning’s sun.

The painting is presented nicely in an appropriate gilded frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
