Dark Danish School Mountainous Landscape With Lake

Dark Danish School Mountainous Landscape With Lake

An atmospheric Danish landscape painting depicting a young lady stood before an extensive mountainous landscape and lake.

It reminds us of Caspar David Friedrich’s ‘Wanderer Above The Sea Of Fog’, in which a solitary figure looks out across a vast series of peaks. Paintings of this kind often refer to the power of nature and contemplate man’s role within it.

It’s housed within a birds-eye maple frame and the canvas has darkened over time.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
