Christian Landenberger

Nude Study Of A Man

This nude study of a man by German artist, Christian Landenburger (1862-1927) is skilfully observed and rendered with a masterful touch.

In 1920, when this was produced, Landenburger was employed as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Stuttgart so we can assume that the drawing was probably undertaken there.

Note the use of light and shade on the model’s back to capture every undulation.

Signed in the lower right and framed/glazed.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
