19th-Century German School, Wintery Village Scene With Figures

A charming wintery landscape painting depicting two figures walking through a snow-covered village. The artist has applied the paint quickly and with plenty of expression. Perhaps it was created outdoors on a chilly moonlit night. We particularly love the daubs of orange that represent the welcoming glow of the warm buildings.

The painting is housed within a gilt frame that’s probably its original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
