Reserved - 19th-Century German School Portrait Of A Young Gentleman

A fine mid-19th-century portrait of a young gentleman wearing a double-breasted frock coat with a white shirt and dark blue cravat. It’s unsigned but clearly by a very accomplished academy-trained artist.

The details are exquisite, particularly around the face, and he carries an air of an upstanding young man.

The portrait is housed within a mid-19th-century frame that could be the original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
