The Finishing Touches

This remarkable oil painting by German artist Otto Voigt (1870-1949) depicts a lady in her dressing room. The scene is adorned with a beauteous array of fineries as she puts the finishing touches to her outfit.

Voigt was a multi-talented creative who was primarily known for his ceramics but also produced paintings that looked back to the 18th and early 19th centuries. He was fascinated by the decorative embellishment of yesteryear and sought to capture its exquisite details.

Signed and held within an impressive gilt frame with foliate.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
