Oskar Hagemann, Portrait Of A Girl

Oskar Hagemann, Portrait Of A Girl

A fine mid-20th-century half-length portrait of a girl by German artist Oskar Hagemann (1888-1985).

This very presentable portrait was almost certainly painted for a family that commissioned it. You can imagine that it once hung proudly in the home - perhaps alongside other portraits of siblings.

Hagemann had a gift for portraiture and a knack for capturing a sitter’s character with soft impressionistic marks. He studied at Karlsruhe Art Academy and he’s represented in several museums.

The painting is housed within an appropriate later frame and signed/dated in the upper left.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
