Lilli Lundsteen, Portrait Of A Girl In A White Dress

Lilli Lundsteen, Portrait Of A Girl In A White Dress

An enigmatic portrait of a seated girl by Danish painter, Elisabeth (Lilli) Charlotte Lundsteen (1871-1949). How do you read her expression? Is she related to the artist?

Lundsteen was primarily a painter of portraits and still lifes. She trained under the gifted portraitist, Frans Schwartz (1850-1917) and exhibited for many years at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition.

One of her works, ‘Barnebillede’, is held in the collection at the Ribe Kunstmuesum. She was also a member of the Danish Women’s Artists Association.

The painting is signed/dated in the lower left.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 24” x 29” / 61cm x 73cm

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
