Henrik Joesten Bleeker, Portrait Of A Woman Reminiscing

Henrik Joesten Bleeker, Portrait Of A Woman Reminiscing

This poignant early 20th-century portrait of a woman captures a quiet moment of reflection with skill and sensitivity. Her left-hand holds a photograph, perhaps a loved one, her right clutches a scarf. The expression is enigmatic - lost in thought, recalling a fond memory.

The artist, Henrik Joesten Bleeker (1869-1930), has created a portrayal, which is more personal than many of his other works. Maybe he knew the sitter.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a period frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
