Early 20th-Century German School, Portrait Of An Older Woman

Early 20th-Century German School, Portrait Of An Older Woman

A characterful early 20th-century portrait of an older lady in profile. It’s been painted with energy, bravura and areas of impasto. The artist is unknown but it’s clearly by a well-trained hand.

The painting is housed within a period frame that’s probably its original.

Medium: Oil on canvas laid on wood
Overall size: 22½” x 26½” / 57cm x 67cm
Year of creation: c. 1900
Provenance: Germany
Condition: Overall very presentable. Frame with some repairs and light wear.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
