Wolf Thaler trained at the Academy in Munich and was particularly inspired by the high-contrast drama of 17th-century Dutch flower painting. The Old Masters of the Baroque era certainly set the bar high with regards to still lifes and, like many of his contemporaries, Thaler enjoyed working in this style.
