Frederick Golden Short was born in Lyndhurst, which is also in the New Forest, so he knew this area well. The majority of his works tend to focus on the picturesque views around the area he spent most of his life. He exhibited widely during his life including at The Royal Academy, The Royal Society of British Artists, and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
