Ekman, Emil (1880-1951)

Swedish artist, Emil Gotthard Ekman was predominantly known for marine scenes, which tended to depict sailboats - often in choppy waters. During his life, he was considered to be one of Sweden’s leading naval painters. Today, he’s represented at the Malmö Museum and the Moderna museet. 

He’s known to have worked in Skagen, Denmark.

Born in Malmö, Sweden. The son of railway worker Lars Nilsson Ekman and Elsa Olsdotter.

1896-1901

Studied at Malmö Technical Evening School.

Undertook several study trips to Europe.

Exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, Stockholm.

1951

Died in Stockholm, Sweden.
