Wolf Thaler, Still Life With Flowers

Wolf Thaler, Still Life With Flowers

An early 20th-century oil on canvas depicting an arrangement of beautiful flowers by classically trained German artist, Wolf Thaler (1895-1952).

Thaler trained at the Academy in Munich and was particularly inspired by the high-contrast drama of 17th-century Dutch flower painting. The Old Masters of the Baroque era certainly set the bar high with regards to still lifes and, like many of his contemporaries, Thaler enjoyed working in this style.

The painting is housed within what appears to be its original frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
