Vincenzo Canino, An Italian Art Market

Vincenzo Canino, An Italian Art Market

A lively early 20th-century oil on canvas depicting a vibrant art market by Italian artist, Vinzenzo Canino (1892-1978). Through the use of colour, expressive brushwork and composition, Canino has imbued this piece with a sense of life and vigour. You can imagine the sounds of exuberant bartering as the dealers conduct their business.

Vinzenzo Canino was known primarily for landscapes, street scenes and the occasional portrait. This is a very fine example of his work.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a frame that’s probably its original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
