Søren Josva Christensen, Living Room Interior

Søren Josva Christensen, Living Room Interior

A light-filled impressionistic interior scene by Danish artist, Søren Josva Christensen (1892-1948).

On our left, a tall mirror is positioned behind ornaments that are sat atop a decorative cabinet. While on our right, a plant stands upon a period writing desk. The room is brightly illuminated via a curtained window.

Søren Josva Christensen was predominantly known as a landscape painter but also produced portraits and interior scenes. In around 1920, he moved to Skörping Stationsby in northern Denmark, which is close to ‘Rebild Bakker’, an impressive mountain range. It’s an area that has inspired many artists over the years due to its beauty and abundant scenery.

The painting is signed in the lower left.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
