A peaceful early 20th-century oil on canvas by noteworthy German painter, Rudolf Hellgrewe (1860-1926). You can imagine Hellgrewe sat by his easel while he captured this beautiful Autumnal scene. It’s an interesting composition with the trees wrapping around the lake and guiding our eyes towards the distant hills on the left.
Hellgrewe studied at the Berlin Art Academy and he’s primarily known for the work he produced while travelling through East Africa. In 2018, his masterpiece, ‘Crossing the Wadi’, reached £12,000 at Sotheby’s.
