Robert John Hammond, Upland Landscape With Cattle

Robert John Hammond, Upland Landscape With Cattle

This charming late 19th-century painting by British artist Robert John Hammond (act.1879-1911) depicts cattle roaming before an extensive upland view.

Hammond has captured a quintessential rural idyll with aplomb. You can almost hear the rippling of the stream as the water runs gently over the stones.

The view is similar to those he painted in North Wales.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
