Reserved - Robert Colot, Industrial Landscape With River Barges

A beautiful impressionistic river scene by Belgian painter, Robert Colot (1927-1993). Two barges are meandering their way along a river before a colourful industrial cityscape. While several cranes punctuate the last of the evening’s light.

Robert Colot was known for his depictions of working-class figures and urban landscapes. He trained in Brussels and was a quiet man who preferred to work alone.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a fine period frame with shell centres and pierced foliate corners.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
