René Caty, Evening Interior With Female Nude

René Caty, Evening Interior With Female Nude

This early 20th-century oil on canvas by Belgian artist René Caty depicts a curvaceous nude sitting before a roaring fire. She looks down, her head in profile, the outlines of her body lit by a warm glow.

Caty was underrated and possessed a keen ability for rendering the human form. Nudes were a speciality and this particular lady appears in other works. Perhaps it's his wife, muse or both. Note the feet, which are delicately painted.

Signed and held within an ornate frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
