Reginald Daniel Sherrin, On The Stour

Reginald Daniel Sherrin, On The Stour

A fine early 20th-century landscape painting by British painter, Reginald Daniel Sherrin (1891-1971). It depicts a picturesque view, which is probably on the River Stour in East Anglia.

Reginald Daniel was the son of the accomplished landscape artist, Daniel Sherrin (1869-1940). He was born near Whitstable in Kent and served in both World Wars - working in a munitions factory in Rochester during WWII. In 1953, he moved to Starcross in Devon, which is a county that often inspired him.

The painting is signed in the bottom left, inscribed on the reverse, and housed within a beautiful later frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
