R Percy, British School Landscape With Stream, Track & Distant Church

R Percy, British School Landscape With Stream, Track & Distant Church

A fine mid-19th-century landscape painting depicting a rural view with a stream, track and figures. It evokes the romanticism of a John Constable and provides a window into a time gone by.

A young couple are resting under an old oak tree alongside a babbling brook. You can almost hear the gentle ripples as they cascade over small rocks.

In the distance, several sheep are grazing in a field and there’s a small church towards the centre of the composition.

The painting is signed R Percy in the lower left and housed within an attractive frame with pierced foliate centres and swept corners.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 28½” x 19½” / 72cm x 50cm
Year of creation: c. 1860

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
