Portrait Of Karl Hoffmann

Portrait Of Karl Hoffmann

A 19th-century three-quarter length portrait of the dashing Karl Hoffmann. He’s seated in what appears to be a wooded area with one arm resting on the foot of a tree.

With his well-tailored outfit and perfectly coiffured moustache, he carries the air of a distinguished country gentleman.

On his left, there’s a green hat that looks similar to a mariner’s cap - perhaps a clue as to his profession or interests.

The portrait is housed within a swept giltwood frame with foliate corner ornamentation. Dated on the reverse.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
