Portrait Of A Girl Carrying Firewood

Portrait Of A Girl Carrying Firewood

A fine late-19th-century oil on canvas depicting a girl carrying a bundle of firewood.

It’s been painted confidently with broad brush strokes in areas and a great deal of bravura. Her eyes are beautifully rendered and capture her expression masterfully. She’s caught somewhere between exhaustion and a desire to overcome.

In the bottom left you’ll notice a small dwelling on raised ground.

The portrait is housed within an appropriate later wooden frame.
